| The Zambia New Agency (ZANA) The Zambia New Agency (ZANA) has been in existence from the 1960s to date. The agency has been prodding news both to local media as well as international media. But until recently the government decided to restructure the Zambia New agency together with its sister organisation the Zambia information services so as is make then more cost effective and efficient in then operations. After the successful restricting the two institutions were merged into one institution now know as the Zambia News and information services (ZANIS). The advent of ZANIS has not done away with the either of the roles of the then ZANA on ZIS but has instead harmonised and strengthened then to the bettement of their audience. The organisation has embraced the use of information and communication technologies (ICTS), although there is still a long way to fully maximise them. Reporters are using computers, laptops, ceuphones etc in their day to day work. They together with their editors are able to send and edit stores respectively using. The compute network as well as internet for those. Outside the man station (H/Q) the coming of ICIS have made work editors and management. However there are still a number of challenges for officers in the outlying districts to also utilise ICTS sucer as computers, digital canesas etc. Also internet connection in all these officers is still a challenge. But the institution despite all these challenges has had its own shave of goodwill from collaborating partners who have donated some ICT equipment is not enough to go round to all the district offices. It would therefore car be awaited to the distinct officers who are still using type writes and telex to execute their work. Where then does the institution want to be? The institution would like to increase its ICT availability and usage. The training of its members of staff in ICT issues that is how to embrace / use then as well as how to also report about them from a more informed perspective. The institution would encourage networking initiatives that ……. at involving it in the information society / era. Also see the complete computerisation of the institution to improve efficiency. Lastly any networking initiative or projects are welcome. After all it is said ‘' NO MAN IS ISLAND''. |
