West African Newsmedia and Development Centre

The West African Newsmedia and Development Centre (WANAD) is a centre of expertise in media and communication for development.

Objectives

The main objectives of the WANAD Centre are:

  • to strengthen the capacity of the mass media in West Africa to promote social and economic development through accurate and informed reporting; and

  • to promote the use of communication for sustainable development.

These objectives are achieved through a programme of training, equipment and technical assistance to the mass media and development communicators.

Expertise

    WANAD's strength lies in its ability to provide its member-states and institutions with:

  • independent analysis of communication policy and investment plans;

  • assistance in the design of development communication projects and training programmes;

  • procurement of equipment and services at very competitive prices; and

  • practical implementation of media and communication projects.

    WANAD is unique because it combines a thorough knowledge of the media and communication industry with an understanding of the international development institutions, their policies and procedures, in addition to a practical locally adapted approach to the resolution of problems and programme execution.
